Chess

Challenge your friends to chess. No clock: each of you moves whenever you can.

How to play Chess

  1. Challenge a friend. One plays red, who moves first, and the other blue.
  2. Taking turns, each of you moves a piece. Tap one of your pieces to see where it can go.
  3. Checkmate wins: the opponent's king is attacked and has no way out.
  4. It's a draw by stalemate, by repeating the same position three times, after 50 moves without a capture or pawn move, and when there isn't enough material left to checkmate.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a clock?

No. It's turn-based: each of you moves when you can and we let you know when it's your turn.

Can you castle, promote and capture en passant?

Yes. Every chess rule applies, and the app only lets you make legal moves.

Do I need to download anything?

No. You play in the browser, on your phone or computer. If you like, you can add it to your home screen like an app.
